“I am worthy to be traded” UConn Huskies football star insisting to leave the team due to…
STORRS, Connecticut Three players from the UConn football program are playing in two college football all-star games this week in front of NFL coaches and scouts in an attempt to improve their draft standing before the NFL Draft in April of this year. Senior Jackson Mitchell of Ridgefield, Connecticut is at the East-West Shrine Bowl, while Christian Haynes of Bowie, Maryland, and Eric Watts of Sumter, South Carolina, are competing in the Reese’s Senior Bowl.
This week, Mitchell traveled to Dallas, Texas, where he will suit up for the East Team under the direction of Richard Hightower, a former Chicago Bears special team coordinator who recently concluded his second season in that role. In the NFL, he has worked as a coach with the Houston Texans, Washington Commanders, Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, and Bears since 2006.
The 99th East-West Shrine Bowl will take place at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, which is home to the Dallas Cowboys’ global headquarters. On Thursday night, February 1st, the game will begin and be televised live on the NFL Network. The game is set to begin at 8:00 p.m. EST.
This week, Haynes and Watts are participating in the 75th Anniversary Senior Bowl at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. Terrell Williams, the defensive line coach and assistant head coach of the Tennessee Titans, is coaching the two players on the American team. Considered by many to be the best college football all-star game, the Reese’s Senior Bowl yielded 100 total picks for the third consecutive year, accounting for 40% of the NFL draft, 40 of which were picked in the first two days.
The game this year will take place at Hancock Whitney Stadium on Saturday, February 3rd at 1 pm EST. NFL Network will provide live coverage of the match.
Together, they become the 16th and 17th Huskies in history to take part in the Senior Bowl. The NFL Combine, which is the next step in the draft process, is scheduled for February 29–March 3. The dates of the 2024 NFL Draft are April 25–27.
